Production and removal of soluble organic nitrogen by nitrifying biofilm

چکیده
This study investigated soluble organic nitrogen (sON) activity in batch reactors mimicking nitrifying moving bed biofilm (MBBRs). work was divided into two objectives focusing on the production and degradation of sON, respectively. For first objective, a synthetic feed that did not contribute any used results indicated irrespective presence influent carbon (0 versus 400 mg COD/L) reactors, sON contributed by during nitrification. Although net observed, both ammonification coexisted which regulated concentration. second actual wastewater fed to investigate under different (C/N) ratios. A higher concentration biodegraded reactor when with containing lower C/N ratio. Overall suggested bioavailability and/or ammonia influenced sON. is explore MBBR findings from this could extend knowledge fixed film process respect regulate optimize operation meeting stringent total discharge limits. • Soluble produced reactor. Highest observed at lowest tested. cycled via ammonification. Bioavailability C level activities.

Nitrogen removal in a single-chamber microbial fuel cell with nitrifying biofilm enriched at the air cathode.
Nitrogen removal is needed in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for the treatment of most waste streams. Current designs couple biological denitrification with side-stream or combined nitrification sustained by upstream or direct aeration, which negates some of the energy-saving benefits of MFC technology. To achieve simultaneous nitrification and denitrification, without extra energy input for aerat...

The effects of the lengths of aeration and nonaeration periods on nitrogen removal and the nitrifying bacterial community structure were assessed in intermittently aerated (IA) reactors treating digested swine wastewater. Five IA reactors were operated in parallel with different aeration-to-nonaeration time ratios (ANA). Populations of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite-oxidizing bact...
متن کاملBiological Phosphorus and Nitrogen Removal from Wastewater Using Moving Bed Biofilm Process
In this research, an experimental study to evaluate nutrient removal from synthetic wastewater by a lab-scale moving bed biofilm process was investigated. Also, kinetic analysis of the process with regard to phosphorus and nitrogen removal was studied with different mathematical models. For nutrient removal, the moving bed biofilm process was applied in series with anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic...

2016 © American Water Works Association JOURNAL AWWA JULY 2016 | 108:7 Chloramine use is widespread in US drinking water distribution systems as a secondary disinfectant, and its use is predicted to increase with the final implementation of the Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (USEPA 2005). Chloramination is beneficial from the perspective of controlling formation of regul...
متن کاملGraphene Biotransistor Interfaced with a Nitrifying Biofilm
Using a graphene field-effect transistor biosensor, we monitored the pH inside a living biofilm with fast temporal resolution (∼1 s) over multihour time periods. The atomically thin sensor is positioned between the biofilm and a supporting silicon oxide surface, providing noninvasive access to conditions at the base of the biofilm. We determine the transient changes in pH when the biofilm metab...
